When did doorknobs become less a way of opening a door to
more of a work of art? Our first doorknobs were really just an iron thumb latch
or a peg and rope. It was around the mid
1800’s that mortise locks came into fashion.
Then the art began! Knobs made
out of glass, bronze, brass, milleflori, porcelain and wood. The
artists in each of these mediums came up with some of the most beautiful door
knobs, escutcheons, and hinges that we get to enjoy today. We enjoy them on our
doors or even in a wire basket or attached to a board for an unusual coat hanger. Come check out the selection of vintage
doorknobs and hardware for your home or craft needs! We have a lot happening here at South End
Antique Mall this month! We have a few
new vendors with terrific treasures! Our
Sweet Heart sale will be on February 8th & 9th. Everything in the mall is 10% off! The city of Aurora is celebrating “Follow
Your Heart to Aurora” for the entire month of February. You can win a $100 certificate to spend with
Aurora merchants just by visiting the merchants during the month. Plan your
