When did doorknobs become less a way of opening a door to more of a work of art? Our first doorknobs were really just an iron thumb latch or a peg and rope. It was around the mid 1800’s that mortise locks came into fashion. Then the art began! Knobs made out of glass, bronze, brass, milleflori, porcelain and wood. The artists in each of these mediums came up with some of the most beautiful door knobs, escutcheons, and hinges that we get to enjoy today. We enjoy them on our doors or even in a wire basket or attached to a board for an unusual coat hanger. Come check out the selection of vintage doorknobs and hardware for your home or craft needs!
