Revive Your Decor!

We are just a few weeks into our “quarantine” and I have been busy looking at projects I need to get done while I am not distracted by things that take me away from home.  As I work on these little projects, it makes me happy to think I am “reusing” something that looks a little tired instead of replacing it with something that will not last nearly as long.  Even if you’re not a fan of the “chippy” look, just giving an old piece of furniture a coat of paint or refresh the stain will make it seem new again! Take a stand against our “disposable society” and start looking for ways to reuse what we have!  Reinventing the use of something in a new way pushes your creative self to think outside the box. The smallest item can become a new look for décor and still be a functional, usable item!  When we are able to open our doors to the public again, come in and browse around to see what our very creative vendors have done to use and reuse treasures!

Something as simple as a rolling pin can add tons of interest!

Painting something white gives it class!

A simple coat of paint refreshed this cute little table

A Strange New World!!

So we are all floundering around in this odd new world of doing things a little differently!  We here at South End Antique Mall are no exception!  We are currently closed to those who want to “walk in” and shop. We recognize that on-going communication with our buyers is very important.  To that end we are covering our phone for those of you who have purchased items they need to pick-up, have found items on Craig’s List you want to purchase or just have general questions about the mall.  We can arrange a private pick-up so your personal space is protected.  Please feel free to call us at 503-678-5242.  Feel free to leave a message if no one answers. They will get back to you as soon as possible.  Thanks so much for your patience as we work this out in a way that will keep you and our staff safe!

A Month Full of Love

When did doorknobs become less a way of opening a door to more of a work of art? Our first doorknobs were really just an iron thumb latch or a peg and rope.  It was around the mid 1800’s that mortise locks came into fashion.  Then the art began!  Knobs made out of glass, bronze, brass, milleflori, porcelain and wood.   The artists in each of these mediums came up with some of the most beautiful door knobs, escutcheons, and hinges that we get to enjoy today. We enjoy them on our doors or even in a wire basket or attached to a board for an unusual coat hanger.   Come check out the selection of vintage doorknobs and hardware for your home or craft needs!  We have a lot happening here at South End Antique Mall this month!  We have a few new vendors with terrific treasures!  Our Sweet Heart sale will be on February 8th & 9th.  Everything in the mall is 10% off!  The city of Aurora is celebrating “Follow Your Heart to Aurora” for the entire month of February.  You can win a $100 certificate to spend with Aurora merchants just by visiting the merchants during the month. Plan your trip to South End Antique Mall and the other Aurora merchants this month!

Happy Thanksmas!!

Happy Thanksmas! You know, that period of time between Halloween and New Year’s when we mush together Thanksgiving and Christmas. I suspect you are in one of two camps; refuse to decorate for Christmas until after Thanksgiving or off and running now! Whichever camp you fall into, we have seasonal treats for you.   It’s wonderful to include those old transferware platters on your Thanksgiving table.    They are beautiful and can be readily found.  You will find ironstone gravy boats, serving utensils, candlesticks, etc.  We have a wonderful selection of special items for all your entertaining needs.   If you are in the “Christmas” camp, our vendors have been stuffing their booths with terrific vintage pieces.  There is nothing wrong with making your holiday decorating plans in advance! Our entry has been transformed again into an old fashioned Christmas.  The Sleigh has arrived and the “Thanksmas” season has begun!   Make your plans now to stop by South End Antique Mall and check out the changes.
